Research Grants

January 2024 - September 2025. Co-Investigator

General Objective: To monitor genetic diversity and characterize genetic connectivity patterns of Chilean marckerel (Trachurus murphyi) from the Southeast Pacific (PSO) in a spatiotemporal context, based on empirical genomic and informative data for conservation and fisheries management following the commitments signed by Chile within the framework of the Scientific Committee of the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Organization.

November 2023 - October 2024. Co-Investigator

General Objective: To identify interaction sites between TRPV3 and Cav3.2 proteins in mouse oocytes associated with calcium oscillations involved in a deficient activation of oocytes.

FONDECYT Regular, ANID (12311295): "Immunological characterization of antibody-mediated Fc effector functions during hantavirus infection". April 2023 - March 2027. Co-Investigator

General Objective: To elucidate the functional mechanism of antibodies-dependent cellular effector function elicited against hantavirus and determine their role as modulators of inflammation in a cohort of acute HCPS and survivors.

ANILLO, ANID (ATE220034): "Integrated multi-omic immune profiling of human RNA respiratory viruses: current and future pandemics". April 2023 - March 2026. Principal Investigator

General Objective: To determine what viral and human host factors are responsible for inducing severe respiratory distress or fatal outcomes. To constrain our analytical models and validate predictive sensitivity using human patient samples. Here, we chose to focus on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus two (SARS-CoV2), influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and Hantavirus for their clear relevance to public health but also to leverage our existing investigations that include extensive inventories of clinical samples and diagnostics for these viral agents. We will combine data from different immunological, virological, biochemical, and molecular tactics with known clinical information to define signatures related to disease severity. This integrated approach is critical for identifying parameters associated with protective or harmful immune responses.

eLife´s 2022 Ben Barres Spotlight Award (eLife-Mesocosm): "Manufacturing an indoor mesocosm system to study the effect of ocean acidification on marine animals". December 2022 - October 2023. Responsible Investigator

General Objective: To build an indoor medium-sized aquatic mesocosm system. This system will allow us to manipulate seawater chemistry, light levels, and temperature to answer questions on the molecular responses and effect of climate change and ocean acidification on marine organisms.

FONDECYT Regular, ANID (1220708): "Probing gene regulatory network origin and diversification: a functional characterization of skeletogenic enhancers in an early-branching sea urchin species inhabiting Chile". April 2022 - March 2026. Responsible Investigator

General Objective: To unravel the transcriptional drivers of effector genes (sm30, sm50, msp130, and p16) underlying larval skeletogenesis and determine their functionality and evolutionary conservation.

December 2022 - October 2025. Deputy Director

General Objective: To propose a multi-sector water quality platform aimed at the integrated water resources information platform. Microbiome: a tool for epidemiological surveillance and measurement of microbiological quality in continental waters.

November 2022 - June 2024. Responsible Coordinator

General Objective: To implement a real-time sequencing platform to strengthen scientific research and innovation in science in Southern Chile.

VRID-UdeC Multidisciplinario (220.031.117-M): "Combination of zebrafish and mouse models to study Mgat1-dependent protein N-glycosylation regulating cortical granule biology and egg activation". April 2020 - March 2022. Co-Investigator

General Objective: To determine the role of Mgat1a protein in cortical granule biology by evaluating its function in shaping the N-glocoproteome that regulates egg activation.

January 2020 - December 2022. Associate Investigator

General Objective: To develop and validate a prototype biological product to preventively control Bacterial Wilt and Brown Rot in potato crops (Solanum tuberosum).

FONDECYT Regular, ANID (1190926): "A Sox2/Sox9/FoxL1 transcriptional code drives developmental and regenerative skull ossification". April 2019 - March 2023. Co-Investigator

General Objective: To determine how the antagonistic roles played by the repressor Sox2 and by the Sox9/FosL1 activator complex control the expression timing of cartilage-related and biomineralization-related genes during developmental and regenerative skull ossification.

December 2018 - November 2020. Co-Investigator

General Objective: To develop and validate on a laboratory scale a biotechnological tool to improve efficiency in the start-up and operation processes of biofilters in recirculating aquaculture systems.

FONDECYT Iniciación, ANID (11180084): "Cellular, transcriptional and regulatory characterization of shell formation in the Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) under ocean acidification conditions". November 2018 - October 2021. Responsible Investigator

General Objective: To understand the transcriptional and regulatory landscapes, as well as the cellular anatomy, underpinning

shell biomineralization under normal and altered pH conditions in Crassostrea gigas through a multidisciplinary approach.

March 2018 - February 2021. Responsible Investigator
